Blue Lagoon: The Awakening

A school trip to Trinidad includes a carnival on a boat where Emma is swept up in the party. A surprise police raid shatters the carnival, and Emma is knocked overboard.

Dean bravely dives into the water and pulls Emma to safety. The pair take shelter under a tarpaulin as bad weather closes in, facing an uncertain night at sea.

The morning after, they realize they are adrift in the open sea. They spot an island and manage to paddle toward shore to escape the endless water.

Emma and Dean land on the island's beach exhausted and begin searching for signs of civilization. They cling to hope that help will arrive even though there is no immediate sign of rescue.

They wander through the forest as days pass, and a rising tide washes their boat away. All they have left is a flare gun with two bullets, forcing them to improvise a shelter and wait.

Back home, Emma's and Dean's families, aided by police and helicopters, search for them. After a month, family members and friends begin to abandon hope that they will ever return.

On the island, Emma and Dean grow closer as they survive together. Dean opens up about feeling unseen at school and about his mother's death, and Emma begins to see a different, more adventurous side of him.

They hear a tourist helicopter, but they cannot signal it because the flare gun has been stolen by a Capuchin monkey. The missed chance deepens their fear of being forgotten by the outside world.

Exhausted and hopeful, they give in to their growing feelings and have sex. The moment marks a shift from mere survival to a complicated emotional bond between them.

The morning after Emma finds Dean digging a grave for a skeleton they had found. He explains that he hoped for closure about his mother's death and that he feels remorse for the tragedy that struck her.

Nearly 100 days pass; life on the island becomes routine as Emma and Dean adapt to each other. Their families and friends have given up hope of finding them.

A helicopter returns and, this time, they manage to signal with the flare gun (which the Capuchin has returned). They are brought back to safety.

Back home, Emma's popularity receives wide attention while Dean feels sidelined and invisible in her orbit. He struggles to find his place among her friends again.

Dean visits Emma at her bedroom window, hoping for a kiss, but she resists. He realizes their worlds are diverging again and the moment leaves him unsettled.

Prom night arrives; Emma attends with Stacey, while Dean comes in his father's tux, invited by his father. They reconcile, kiss, and dance in the rain, ending with the lines 'We are pouring' and 'We've been through worse.'
