A tragicomic road film set in Edo‑era Japan, tracing a samurai and his two attendants—including the spear‑bearing Genpachi—as they trek across the countryside. Along the way they encounter a police officer chasing a thief, a lonely child, and a woman destined for prostitution, among other colorful characters.
