Floyd’s fate in the ending is left deliberately ambiguous. After attempting to steal money with a reckless plan, he ends up shot and vulnerable. Despite this, there’s a strong suggestion that Floyd might still be alive; Jacqueline hints it, and Sam believes he sees him during an autograph session, creating doubt about Floyd’s true fate. Ultimately, the film offers no definitive answer, emphasizing perhaps that these events are a product of Sam’s fractured psyche or an allegorical reflection of his fantasies. The ending leaves Floyd’s survival uncertain, playing into the film’s overall themes of illusion, reality, and storytelling. In the end, Lily, the only other character who seems to matter emotionally, appears with Sam, and they run into the night, hinting at a possible new beginning, free from the chaos of the past. The film closes on a note that invites viewers to interpret whether Floyd is truly gone or if he has survived in some form, reinforcing the idea that much of what transpired may be a dream, hallucination, or the product of a troubled mind.
