In the past, a young Bruce Wayne discovers a secret, shadowy organization known as the Court of Owls through his father Thomas Wayne (voiced by Kevin Conroy). After witnessing the murder of his parents, Bruce suspects the Court was behind the crime but finds no hard evidence, which leads him to doubt the existence of a real conspiracy and to question whether the tale was ever more than a story.
In the present, Damian Wayne goes out as Robin to rescue missing children abducted by Anton Schott, the Dollmaker (voiced by Weird Al Yankovic), who has been brainwashing them into his eerie “dolls.” While Batman frees the children, Damian takes on Anton on his own, displaying a fierce, if reckless, resolve that scares even his father. A mysterious figure in an owl costume appears and urges Damian to kill Anton, leaving behind a single feather as a grim token. Bruce, unaware that the figure has touched Damian in a way that will strain their relationship, begins to sense danger from a son who seems increasingly capable of violence. When Anton is found dead, Bruce fears Damian may be involved, given the young vigilante’s volatile history and the fact that the owl figure was never seen by anyone else. To prevent Robin from slipping out again, Bruce places new security measures around Wayne Manor, signaling a growing distrust in Damian’s temper and power.
That night, Bruce goes out as Batman to trace the origin of the feather, leading him to a museum where the feather is connected to a large, preserved owl. He is ambushed by a cadre of owl-costumed assassins and is wounded, but he is ultimately saved by Nightwing, the former sidekick Dick Grayson (voiced by Sean Maher). Wounded but determined, Bruce heads to meet his girlfriend Samantha Vanaver, and the two share a moment of quiet connection before the danger closes in again. Samantha, a loyal confidante, remains an anchor as events spiral out of control. On their way, Bruce is intercepted by a group of Owl operatives who take him to their headquarters, where he encounters their enigmatic leader, the Grandmaster (voiced by Robin Atkin Downes), who offers him a bargain—join them or die. Bruce refuses, leaving a tracking device behind so the Court can be traced.
Meanwhile, Damian slips from Wayne Manor and encounters the same assassin who killed Anton. The killer introduces himself as Talon (voiced by Jeremy Sisto) and begins to groom Damian into a Court assassin, promising power and a sense of belonging that Damian has been craving, even as his fear of becoming like his father gnaws at him. The pair forms an uneasy bond as Talon trains Damian in the Court’s brutal ways, a development that will reshape Damian’s sense of identity and loyalty.
Bruce infiltrates the Court’s HQ once more and is dosed with hallucinogenic gas, experiencing a vision of a future where Damian becomes a murderous vigilante. He is saved again by Nightwing and Alfred Pennyworth (voiced by David McCallum), whose steady presence reinforces the family’s fragile resilience. The revelation that Damian is Bruce’s son looms large, and the Grandmaster rejects Damian, aiming to emotionally cripple Bruce by threatening Damian’s life. Talon leads a purge, killing several members of the Court before killing the Grandmaster, who is revealed to be Samantha. With the Grandmaster’s death, Talon seizes control of the Court and gathers an army of immortal Owls to march on Wayne Manor.
The attack is met by Batman, Nightwing, and Alfred, who manage to stall the invaders by freezing the undead Owls. Talon finally confronts Bruce in a brutal duel and wounds him, while Damian steps in to protect his father. In a defining moment, Damian tells Bruce that he could never be a father to him the way Bruce is, prompting Talon to turn his aggression toward Damian. The battle ends with Talon taking his own life—driven to despair after Damian drives him to it by delivering a fatal neck-stab with his own sai—leaving a deeply shaken Damian to process the consequences of his choices.
Traumatized but resolute, Damian rejects Bruce’s offer to return home and instead decides to seek clarity in a Himalayan monastery Bruce once visited. Bruce solemnly consoles him, acknowledging the pain they both carry, and accepts that Damian must find his own path. The two share a quiet, difficult moment of understanding as the night closes around them, and Damian sets off toward the monastery, ready to discover who he is apart from the shadow of his father’s legacy.
