That night, the freaks break into Marcie's house after obtaining the address from Phil's wallet. Belial mutilates Marcie's face, turning her into a freak, and Arty is killed along with the private detective Phil. The attackers leave guilt and fear in their wake as the family asserts control.

The night ends with the freaks reveling in their small victory and Eve and Belial consummating their relationship in the attic. The celebration is charged with relief and danger, underscored by their fragile secrecy. They push safety and humanity to the margins.
