Tess Marshall arrives at a dilapidated rental property in the troubled neighborhood of Brightmoor, Detroit, the night before her job interview. She hopes for a quiet night to prepare for her upcoming opportunity.

To her surprise, Tess finds that her rental house has been double-booked and is occupied by a man named Keith Toshko. Despite her initial unease, she decides to let her guard down and spends the night while Keith takes the sofa.

In the middle of the night, Tess is startled awake by her bedroom door being ajar. When she questions Keith about it, he insists he didn’t interfere, leaving Tess feeling uneasy about their situation.

The next morning, Tess heads out for her interview and is warned by locals to remain alert in the unsafe neighborhood. Upon returning, she is chased by a homeless man who screams at her to leave, prompting her to frantically escape.

Two weeks later, AJ Gilbride, the house owner, faces scrutiny from sexual assault accusations and travels to Detroit to assess his property for sale. In his exploration, he inadvertently discovers the hidden tunnel.

While inspecting the basement, AJ unexpectedly encounters The Mother, who attacks him viciously. In a chaotic moment, he falls into a pit, where he finds himself face-to-face with Tess.

A haunting flashback reveals the disturbing history of the house, detailing how Frank, its original owner, abducted and imprisoned women for horrific experiences. This unveils the lineage of terror within the walls.

Tess and AJ fall into The Mother's clutches, who expresses her twisted need to make them her children. In a horrifying moment, AJ is forcibly breastfed, heightening the grotesque nature of the situation.
