Bonobihari Sarkar was the mastermind behind the theft. He had his servant Ganesh Guho infiltrate the household under a Punjabi disguise to steal the ring while it was kept at Sanyal's home, setting the stage for the entire mystery.

Bonobihari Sarkar uses his exotic collection of dangerous creatures, including crocodiles, tigers, hyenas, and poisonous snakes, as both a intimidation tactic and a cover for his criminal activities. This eccentric hobby makes him appear harmless while he operates as a thief and murderer.

Feluda had already solved the case by the time they reached Haridwar. He had recovered the ring from Bonobihari Sarkar and kept it in his matchbox to protect it. When Topshe noticed the glint while Feluda was lighting a cigar, he finally realized Feluda had been holding the ring all along.

Earlier in Lucknow, Feluda's investigation already pointed toward Bonobihari as the culprit.

Feluda had already deduced Bonobihari's identity and the truth behind the theft before arriving at the log house. During the confrontation, he revealed all the evidence exposing Bonobihari as the culprit and Pyarilaal Seth's murderer, turning the trap into a capture.
