Sundar, born into an orthodox Brahmin family, is duped by a smooth-talking fraudster who promises him a role in a film to be shot in the United States. The scam seeds a lasting skepticism within his family about glamorous overseas opportunities. The incident shapes Sundar's approach to dream projects for years to come.

As an adult, Sundar works at an advertising agency and tries to persuade his colleague Soumya to give up the chance to go to the US so he can take her place. Soumya insists on transparency and asks Sundar to reveal his true motive. The dynamic sets up a conflict about personal ambition and honesty.

Sundar reconnects with his childhood sweetheart Leela, a Malayali Christian photographer. Leela's life is unsettled when her ex-boyfriend Vamsi cheats on her, drawing Sundar closer as a supportive presence. The seeds of a future romance begin to sprout.

Sundar and Leela decide to marry despite religious differences and hatch a plan to convince their families by fabricating a departure to the US. Soumya agrees to let Sundar swap places with her, lying to their manager about the employment opportunity. The plan relies on secrecy and misdirection.

A month after arriving in the US, Sundar lies to his parents that he has azoospermia, while Leela pretends to be pregnant with his child to placate their families. Both lies are designed to keep the ruse intact long enough for the wedding to proceed. The deception, however, is already sowing tensions that will later erupt.

The families demand the couple's return to India, forcing them to end the ruse temporarily. In the confusion, Sundar and Leela's bags are swapped, creating a cascade of suspicion about who is who. The stage is set for the truth to begin surfacing.

Leela's parents realize Sundar is Hindu after noticing a Hanuman sticker on his bag, complicating the outsider dynamic. They pressure Leela to declare a pregnancy and administer a test, which Leela fudges to appear positive using a bottle of Mountain Dew. The attempt to validate the lie deepens the web of deception.

Sundar's father takes him to several doctors who rebuke the deception when listening to his story. They eventually meet Dr. Guru, Sundar's childhood friend, who neutrally assesses the situation and hints that treatment could take 10–15 years. The medical uncertainty becomes a new source of delay and doubt for the couple.

Leela's parents arrange her marriage to Joseph, a family friend, and Sundar tries to dissuade him. Sundar confesses to Joseph that Leela's pregnancy was a lie, and Joseph informs Leela's parents. Joseph asks Leela to tell the truth under oath of Bible, but her father cancels the wedding to avoid outsiders discerning their secret.

With no options left, both families reluctantly proceed with the marriage while remaining unaware of each other's true motives. During a tense meeting, the two families barely avoid uncovering the ruse, and Sundar's parents help relax Leela's sister's pregnancy cramps, bringing the families closer emotionally. The delicate balance sustains the plan for now.

Joseph reveals to Leela's mother that Sundar had told him Leela wasn't pregnant. The hospital later reveals a positive result, creating confusion since the couple have not consummated anything. They seek another medical opinion to understand what's really happening.

The doctors diagnose dysgerminoma in Leela, a cancer that would make pregnancy unlikely and require surgery. The tumor's discovery forces a brutal reappraisal of their marriage prospects. Sundar confesses to Leela's father that their pregnancy lies were shared.

Sundar's father and grandmother propose canceling the marriage because of Leela's medical issue, but Sundar's mother insists that his happiness matters more than tradition. The grandmother even plays the Veena to symbolize reconciliation, and a new sense of hope returns. Sundar rushes to tell Leela that they will still marry.

The couple travels to Amelia Island for the wedding as Leela had wished, and Sundar reveals to Leela that he sent the anonymous childhood postcard. Leela confirms she knew it was him, and she admits her dream about the Amelia Island wedding was a fabrication she finally forgives. They reaffirm their commitment and prepare to begin their life together.
