In a neglected corner of the English countryside, Manor Farm endures the sloppy rule of its drunken owner, Mr. Jones. The livestock—cows, pigs, horses, and a host of smaller creatures—live under a weight of hunger and fear, their daily rhythm broken only by the occasional clatter of tools and the mutter of discontent. Beneath the mud‑splattered barns, a restless yearning stirs, promising that a different kind of order might be possible.

When the respected prize pig Old Major shares a stirring vision of shared rule and freedom, the whole herd is awakened to the idea that they could govern themselves. The notion spreads like a song through the stalls, and a fledgling creed—“All animals are equal”—takes root, hinting at an egalitarian future that feels both radical and inevitable. The animals begin to imagine a world where the labor of the many fuels the prosperity of all, not just a privileged few.

Among the emerging leaders, two boars quickly dominate the conversation. Snowball is the inventive idealist, eager to map out grand projects that could lift the farm into a new age of comfort.
