The ending of “Amsterdam” reveals the full extent of the conspiracy that Burt, Harold, and Valerie have uncovered. The three discover that Valerie’s brother Tom Voze and his wife Libby are actually the masterminds behind the secret organization called the Committee of the Five, which is involved in political plots to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt and establish a fascist regime in America. This clandestine group had also murdered Bill Meekins, Elizabeth’s father, as part of their plans. During the veterans’ gathering, Dillenbeck, who was being manipulated into supporting the organization, exposes the plot by refusing to deliver the politically motivated speech the conspirators wanted. The assassin, revealed to be Tom Voze himself, attempts to kill Dillenbeck on stage, but Harold and Valerie intervene. As the chaos subsides, Harold and Valerie choose to leave America and return to Europe, where they hope to live peacefully, away from the dangerous influence of fascist plots. Burt, however, remains in New York, deciding to focus on his work with veterans and to start a new life with Irma St. Clair, symbolizing his desire to rebuild and find hope amid the turmoil. The film concludes with a reflection on human resilience and the ongoing struggle between truth and deception, suggesting that despite the treacherous political schemes uncovered, personal hopes and love can still persist.
