Trevor fills in for Billy delivering drugs, and a night run ends with a raid by narcotics agents. He is busted and hauled off, straining the bond between him and Billy. The incident marks Trevor's first major brush with the consequences of their life.

Five years have passed since his arrest and Trevor is released from jail. He learns that Laura has moved on and is now with Billy. He reconnects with Laura and they decide to pursue a fresh start together.

Trevor and his ally Andy hatch a plan to rob a local mobster to steal cash for Laura's gifts, and to fund a potential investment. They hope to use the payout to improve their lives and to start anew. The scheme rekindles old loyalties and risks drawing them deeper into the underworld.

The robbery goes sloppy, and the head mobster quickly sees through what happened. He and Andy's grandfather explain that they can work off their debt by smuggling stolen diamonds instead. The plan shifts from a quick score to a long-term underworld operation.

Convinced, they agree to smuggle diamonds to settle what they owe. The debt becomes the new centerpiece of their lives, tying them to the mob and its risks. The plan marks a pivot from personal crime to organized underworld activity.

Billy discovers Trevor's return with Laura and toys with them before turning spiteful. He begins sabotaging Trevor by convincing the mobsters that Trevor is a junkie and is stealing diamonds, and he also convinces the diamond dealer that Trevor cannot be trusted, handing over fake diamonds.

Trevor's fake diamonds are quickly exposed during a delivery, revealing the betrayal. The mobsters blame Trevor for the scheme and tell Billy that if he wants Trevor dead, he must do the killing himself. The underworld turns against Trevor in a flash.

Billy kidnaps Trevor at Laura's house and drives him to a field to kill him. Trevor pleads for his life, and Billy struggles briefly with his conscience before pulling the trigger, ending Trevor's life.

Andy and Laura realize Trevor is missing and seek answers from the local mobsters investing their money. The mobsters proudly recount Billy's rise to 'made' status by killing Trevor. The couple privately mourn Trevor's death.

Andy goes to Billy's house to confront him about Trevor. Billy tries to talk him down, reminding him of mob hierarchy, but Andy shoots Billy anyway, ending his life. The act closes a chapter of treachery and revenge.

With Billy dead, Andy returns to the mob investors to claim the money they invested and explain that he needs it to pay off loan sharks. They arrange the funds and he pays off the head mobster in full. The debt is satisfied, but the cost is grim and personal.

Having resolved the debt, Andy takes Trevor's motorcycle and leaves the city. It is an uneasy departure, hinting at a new life elsewhere. The ending implies he may follow Trevor to California as Trevor once planned.
