The Stockmans seem perfect—young, successful, deeply in love—and they both want a child. Rachel’s severe bipolar disorder requires lithium, making pregnancy risky, and their mental‑health history disqualifies them from adoption. Frustrated, Rachel stops her medication, becomes pregnant, and the ensuing nine months spiral into worsening health and legal battles as authorities push to end the pregnancy and force her back on treatment.
