Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy

At Cafe Bagdad, the medallion is passed between Abbott, Costello, and Madame Rontru in an attempt to get rid of the cursed object. In the chaos of trying to hand it off quickly, the medallion gets accidentally dropped into Costello's hamburger. The medallion's physical movement from person to person creates the comedic predicament, with each character trying to avoid holding the cursed object.

Semu's men murder Dr. Gustav Zoomer and steal the mummy just before Abbott and Costello arrive at his house. The theft occurs in the late afternoon at Dr. Zoomer's house, setting the treasure hunt plot in motion. Semu later arrives disguised as an archaeologist offering to guide the group to the tomb, concealing his involvement in the murder.

Madame Rontru is a mysterious woman who offers to buy the medallion from Abbott and Costello. She initially offers $100 but agrees to pay more after Abbott negotiates. She is secretly working with Semu, though her full allegiances become complicated as the plot unfolds. She brings the duo to a doctor's office to read the medallion's inscriptions and later participates in the tomb expedition.

Semu plans to kill Abbott and Costello once they reach the tomb so he can claim the treasure of Princess Ara without any witnesses. He disguises himself as an archaeologist to guide them to the tomb, but his real intention is to eliminate them after they lead him to the treasure. This betrayal is revealed when Costello learns of the murder plot inside the tomb.

While Abbott and Costello are being guided to the tomb by Semu, Semu's followers revive Klaris inside the tomb. The revival creates a living mummy threat that looms over the expedition. Klaris serves as the guardian of the treasure and becomes a dangerous obstacle once awakened.

Klaris is killed when dynamite explodes during the confrontation in the temple. All three mummies converge in the chaos, and the detonation kills Klaris while simultaneously revealing the hidden treasure. The explosion marks the end of the mummy's threat and exposes the riches of Princess Ara.

In the final scene, Abbott and Costello persuade Semu to convert the temple into a nightclub rather than exploiting the treasure. Their reasoning is that keeping the legend of Klaris alive will attract more business in the long run than simply taking the treasure. This whimsical resolution allows them to profit from the mummy's mystery instead of looting the tomb.

The medallion supposedly reveals the location of the treasure of Princess Ara, which is hidden in her tomb. Dr. Zoomer had described this to the Americans in Cairo, explaining that Klaris guards the treasure. The medallion bears inscriptions that characters attempt to read under a fluoroscope, though the doctor cannot decipher the hieroglyphics.

At Cafe Bagdad, a waiter warns Abbott and Costello that the medallion is cursed. This warning sparks fear among the trio as they handle the object. The curse concept adds to the comedic tension, though the actual consequences of the curse play out humorously rather than dramatically.

Abbott and Costello disguise themselves as mummies and slip into the temple to rescue Semu after Rontru captures him. This rescue mission allows them to thwart both Semu's original murder plan and Rontru's scheme. The disguise sequence is a classic slapstick moment typical of the duo's comedy style.
