Anjali Devi, a wealthy businesswoman, lives alone in a grand, sunlit mansion where life naturally revolves around a busy staff. Among those closest to her are Sampat Rai [Prem Chopra], her business manager, and Chhaya [Shilpa Shetty Kundra], a girl from the nearby village whom Anjali Devi has cared for since childhood. The household is a small world of its own, filled with routines, favors, and quiet loyalties.
One day, a telegram arrives announcing that Raja [Saif Ali Khan], her grandson, is coming to visit from London. The revelation stirs up a old promise tied to Anjali Devi’s late husband: he insisted that their son and his family never cross the house’s threshold. When tragedy strikes and Raja’s parents die in an accident, Anjali Devi remains bound by that vow, turning her away from the young man who arrives at the gates. Chhaya counsels a patient approach, suggesting that Raja set up a temporary camp outside and slowly win her grandmother’s trust. The plan works, and a wary reconciliation gradually blossoms into acceptance.
Raja and Chhaya’s bond deepens into love, and they decide to marry. But Sampat Rai, who had hoped to inherit the business through his granddaughter’s alliance, schemes a different match: his daughter Sonu [Somy Ali] for Raja. Sonu and Raja form a strong friendship, and Anjali Devi even gives her blessing to their union. Yet Raja openly confesses his love for Chhaya, not Sonu, which infuriates Anjali Devi. She orders Sampat Rai to remove Chhaya from the house, a decision that sets off a chain of events, including Chhaya’s brother Shankar’s furious intervention to “save” his sister from what he sees as an unsuitable match.
Shankar returns Chhaya to her home, and his anger shifts toward a more dangerous plan: to get her married off to Maniram [Gulshan Grover], a formidable, unscrupulous figure. He locks Chhaya away to keep her from Raja, and when Raja attempts to find her, Maniram beats him. In a turn of improvised courage, Chhaya and Raja vanish together with help from Shankar’s wife, while Sampat Rai, Maniram, and Shankar close in on them. The lovers marry in a temple before the pursuers can close in, and for a moment it seems the family may be able to forgive and accept their choice.
Yet the danger mounts as Maniram, aided by Sampat Rai, abducts Chhaya and Raja and drags them to Sampat Rai’s deserted factory. Sampat Rai also captures Anjali Devi and brings her there, hoping to coerce her into signing over her property. Shankar’s wife fights to free them, while Sonu follows her father to the factory and meets a tragic end when she dies trying to free Anjali Devi. The weight of guilt hits Sampat Rai hard when he realizes his own daughter has died because of his plans. As the police arrive to confront the criminals, the would-be victors are finally brought to justice.
In the end, the film resolves with a reconciliation: Anjali Devi, Raja, and Chhaya are reunited, and the bond they share endures beyond the trials that tested it. The story leaves a sense of quiet triumph—loyalty, love, and forgiveness prevailing after a turbulent chain of choices.
