A Hole in the Head

Tony Manetta relocates from New York to Miami with two friends, seeking wealth and success. He manages a small hotel called the Garden of Eden while his friends pursue other ventures. Despite his poor upbringing, Tony spends lavishly and remains in debt, refusing to adopt a more responsible lifestyle.

Tony falls five months behind on his hotel rent and is threatened with eviction unless he raises $5,300 within 48 hours. His financial difficulties highlight his reckless spending and inability to manage his debts, putting his hotel and livelihood at risk.

Tony contacts his older brother Mario, claiming he needs a loan due to his son Ally’s illness. Mario and his wife Sophie come to Miami and discover the truth about Tony’s financial situation. Mario disapproves of Tony's irresponsible lifestyle and only agrees to help with a small business venture.

Mario arranges a meeting between Tony and Eloise Rogers, a widow and acquaintance of Sophie. Eloise is a woman seeking companionship after losing her husband and son. Tony is impressed with her, and Ally quickly takes a liking to her as well.

Mario criticizes Tony for wasting money on dreams instead of working hard for a stable future. During the meeting, Tony confesses to his financial struggles and ambitions of big ventures like hotels and casinos, which Mario considers unrealistic.

At a party with Jerry Marks, Tony explains his ambitious plan to buy land in Florida and establish a second Disneyland. Jerry shows interest in partnering again, but Tony's facade of prosperity is evident as he talks about grand dreams.

Tony, desperate to raise money, bets his $500 from selling his Cadillac on a greyhound race with Jerry. His chosen dog wins, but Tony’s subsequent bets and nervousness reveal his financial desperation. Jerry criticizes him when Tony throws cash in his face and gets punched by Jerry's bodyguard.

Realizing his situation is unsustainable, Tony decides that Ally should live in New York with Mario and Sophie for her safety and stability. He tells Ally that he is unable to keep her, expressing his feelings of failure and abandonment.

Tony goes to the beach alone to reflect on his life and failures. His moment of solitude underscores his feelings of regret and helplessness amidst his financial and personal struggles.

Ally finds Tony on the beach, and Eloise joins them, providing emotional support. This reunion signifies a moment of connection and the possibility of reconciliation amidst Tony’s turbulent life.

Mario and Sophie decide to take a long-overdue vacation, leaving Tony and Ally to face their uncertain future. This departure highlights their ongoing support and concern for Tony’s well-being.
