Widower Nemoto, who pretends to be a businessman, has a son, Kanichi. He remarries a widowed woman who also has a son and daughter. When Nemoto’s fraudulent enterprise collapses, he disappears, leaving his new wife to raise the three children alone. To support them she becomes a bar hostess, hiding the job from the kids. Years later the secret emerges after her daughter is rejected by her husband’s family during a background‑check investigation.
