Mary Pickford portrays a young woman enamored with Edwin August, whom she calls her ideal. She calls him a coward for avoiding a street brawl. Escaped convict Alfred Paget, “A Beast at Bay,” kills a guard, takes his clothes and gun, and begins a chase. After dropping August, she retrieves a fallen garment and is carjacked by Paget. From a distance August watches her taken at gunpoint and must rescue her to prove his bravery.
