The Kazakh village of Karatas is controlled by the ruthless criminal boss Poshaev, who maintains order through a combination of providing jobs and jobs and swift, brutal punishment. When Arzu’s wife informs the police about Poshaev’s crimes, he finds himself a crippled, grieving father raising his young daughter alone.
