What Happens in Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal (2020) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Siddharth and Kallis (Kaliswaran) are two young IT professionals living a seemingly luxurious life, enjoying fast gadgets, sleek laptops, and the glow of a high-end urban world. Their romantic horizons include Meera, a beautician, and Shreya, a chef, who appear to be their girlfriends and partners in a glamorous lifestyle. Beneath the surface, however, both men are con artists who pull off online-shopping scams to line their pockets. They buy genuine laptops using fake identities, swap in counterfeit internal parts, return the devices for refunds, and then sell the real components to keep the money rolling.

One such manipulated laptop ends up in the hands of Prathap Chakravarthi, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and it immediately explodes. Chakravarthi traces the purchase and zeroes in on Siddharth and Kallis. Realizing the net is closing in, the two men contemplate shifting from computer scams to straight car theft as a safer, more direct form of theft.

Meanwhile, a thief steals Meera’s bag, leaving her frustrated and out of pocket. Siddharth feels a twinge of guilt and decides they should truly mend their ways. He and Kallis pack up their money and move with their girlfriends to Goa, planning to start a restaurant and a beauty parlor as a fresh business venture and a new life.

Chakravarthi tracks them to Goa and storms their house with police. At first, the men fear they’re the police’s target, but Chakravarthi reveals a startling twist: he’s actually looking for the two women who fled just before his arrival. Siddharth and Kallis realize Meera and Shreya have forged new identities and are continuing their own schemes elsewhere, having used their supposed relationships to prey on their partners.

After some digging, they discover Meera and Shreya are in Delhi, and have prepared for their next scam with new identities. The two women are stunned that Siddharth and Kallis have followed them, and they agree to return the money and force them to part ways. Yet Siddharth proposes a dangerous alliance: they will work together to rob Sooraj Mehta, a wealthy businessman, of ₹80,000,000 (US$950,000). If the women love them enough to stay together, great; if not, they will split the loot and go their separate ways. The women yield and reveal their new names to be Madhu and Varsha.

Madhu adopts a new identity (Ishita) and befriends Mehta during his yoga class, while Varsha befriends his wife. Siddharth and Kaliswaran manage to break into the couple’s house, and in the process, Siddharth discovers that Sooraj is a drug lord. The others feel wary about continuing, but Siddharth convinces them to press on by planning an escape route out of the country after the heist to dodge Mehta’s wrath.

On the day of the heist, Varsha spends the day shopping with Mehta’s wife, and Madhu stays with Mehta at his guest house, while Siddharth and Kaliswaran loot the house. They steal Mehta’s car by hacking it with an app Siddharth built, then use the car to enter Mehta’s compound. Inside, they open a locker with a 3D-printed thumbprint to grab the cash, while Madhu fakes an illness to slip away from Mehta’s house. To avoid drawing attention at the airport, the group decides to travel by road to Thailand.

Back in Chennai, Chakravarthi is questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation for bending the chase toward two small-time cheaters. He remains mostly tight-lipped, but he candidly recalls being a past victim of Madhu’s guile, which explains his personal stake in chasing her down. The young lovers are shown camping on their way to Thailand, leaving the audience with the sense that trust between them may not be as solid as it seems. The film closes with a lingering hint that, despite the bold heist and their joint scheme, honesty among the group remains fragile and unsettled.

Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal Plot Explained: Your Questions Answered

The questions people ask most about Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal (2020): what happens in the confusing scenes, why the characters do what they do, the twists, hidden details and what the ending means. Each answer contains spoilers.

Q1

Why did Meera and Shreya flee to Delhi with new identities?

Meera and Shreya were con artists all along. They used their relationships with Siddharth and Kallis as covers while running their own scams elsewhere. When Chakravarthi closed in on the men's operation, the women fled with new identities, Madhu and Varsha, to continue their schemes without being caught in the crossfire. Their love was a pretense to exploit the men's trust and access.

Foreshadowing: Earlier scenes show the women enjoying the luxurious lifestyle without any visible means of support, hinting at their independent criminal enterprises.

Q2

How did the exploding laptop draw the DCP to Siddharth and Kallis?

The manipulated laptop that Siddharth and Kallis scammed ended up in Deputy Commissioner Chakravarthi's possession. When it exploded during use, Chakravarthi personally traced the purchase back through the online transaction chain. This led him directly to the scammers' fake identities and eventually to Siddharth and Kallis, kicking off the police chase.

Q3

Why did Siddharth want to go straight after Meera's bag was stolen?

Siddharth felt genuine guilt when Meera's bag was stolen, leaving her frustrated and out of pocket. This moment made him realize the emotional toll their criminal lifestyle had on people around them, including their partners. Rather than continue running scams that put innocent people at risk, he convinced Kallis they should abandon their fraudulent ways and start legitimate businesses in Goa.

Foreshadowing: Siddharth's guilt signals his underlying conscience, which resurfaces when the women's true identities are revealed later.

Q4

How did the group pull off the heist at Sooraj Mehta's house?

The team executed the heist through careful planning: Madhu befriended Mehta at his yoga class while Varsha gained his wife's trust. On heist day, Siddharth and Kallis broke into the house and used an app Siddharth built to hack and steal Mehta's car. They then used a 3D-printed thumbprint, presumably obtained earlier, to open the cash locker containing ₹8 crore. Meanwhile, Madhu faked illness at the guest house to slip away from Mehta.

Q5

Why was Chakravarthi personally invested in catching Madhu?

Chakravarthi revealed he was a past victim of Madhu's deception. Her guile and manipulation had personally affected him before, which is why he became obsessed with tracking her down beyond just the laptop scam case. This personal vendetta drove his determination to pursue her across cities, even when the CBI questioned why he was chasing minor con artists.

Q6

What does the ending imply about trust between the four characters?

The film ends with the group camping on the road to Thailand after successfully pulling off the heist. However, the lingering shot and narrative hint that trust among Siddharth, Kallis, Madhu, and Varsha remains fragile and unsettled. Despite their romantic partnerships and shared criminal enterprise, the revelation of past deceptions leaves their future uncertain, together but not fully trusting.

Q7

Why did Madhu and Varsha agree to the dangerous heist with Siddharth and Kallis?

Madhu and Varsha agreed to the ₹8 crore heist proposal primarily because Siddharth gave them an ultimatum: if they loved him and Kallis enough to stay, they would work together and split the loot; if not, they would simply part ways with their respective shares. Faced with losing their partners or the money, they chose to continue the alliance, revealing their new names and committing to the dangerous plan.

Q8

Why did the group travel by road to Thailand instead of flying?

After stealing ₹8 crore from Sooraj Mehta, a powerful drug lord, the group knew Mehta would be furious and likely had connections at airports and international checkpoints. To avoid surveillance and capture, they planned to travel by road to Thailand, mapping a route that bypassed major checkpoints. This lower-profile escape route was their safest option to disappear abroad with the money.

Q9

How did Siddharth and Kallis execute their online shopping scam?

The two men ran an online shopping scam by using fake identities to purchase genuine laptops. They would then open the devices, swap the authentic internal components with counterfeit parts, return the laptops for refunds, and resell the real parts for profit. This scheme let them live a glamorous lifestyle while staying technically removed from the physical crime.

Q10

Why did Siddharth propose robbing Sooraj Mehta specifically?

Siddharth suggested targeting Sooraj Mehta, a wealthy businessman, because they needed a large sum of money to start fresh and escape their criminal past. The ₹8 crore would fund their new lives abroad while also giving them leverage against Mehta, who Siddharth discovered was a drug lord. Despite the danger, Siddharth believed it was their best chance at a clean break.
