Amshir is employed at the cabaret of his affluent friend Medhat. When Medhat is sentenced to a month behind bars for burning the mustache of wealthy Upper Egyptian Al‑Najawi, he offers Amshir a payment to serve the time in his place. Amshir accepts, entering prison to collect the money.
