Based on Theo Thijssen’s classic, it follows twelve‑year‑old Kees Bakels, a dreamy schoolboy in the late‑19th‑century Jordaan district of Amsterdam. He retreats into vivid imagination, daring more than he does in reality. As his father falls ill and his affection for Rosa Overbeek deepens, Kees is forced to grow, act, and assume responsibility.
