As Sam Phillips and his son Tony play outside their farm, a sudden bright light abducts Sam. Tony watches in shock as his father disappears into the glow, leaving behind only questions and fear.

Three years pass and the alien light returns, planting a mysterious seed in a remote forest. The forest seems to react to the seed as it starts to develop. The atmosphere hints at an otherworldly origin.

The seed grows into a half-human, half-alien creature and is struck by a passing car. The occupants of the car are killed, leaving the creature to face a harsh new world.

The alien creature travels to a nearby cottage and impregnates a young woman. When she awakens, her belly swells until she gives birth to a fully formed Sam, who immediately kills her.

Sam washes himself, steals the driver’s clothes, and leaves in the car, beginning his attempt to reconnect with his family and confront his past.

Sam travels to London in search of his son Tony, who lives with his mother Rachel and her new partners. Tony is plagued by recurring nightmares of blood.

Sam is picked up by Tony from school and moves in with the family, though he claims not to remember what happened before. Rachel, Joe, and Analise accommodate him, creating a fragile new domestic rhythm.

Tony witnesses Sam eating the eggs of his pet snake and drinking its blood. In the process, Tony discovers he has paranormal abilities that set the stage for a dangerous, uncanny bond between father and son.

Tony realizes his powers can animate objects, sending a human-sized toy soldier to slaughter a neighbor and bringing a toy clown to life as part of his emerging control over the family’s strange abilities.

Sam and Rachel travel to the old farm while leaving Tony in Analise’s care, reconnecting with past memories and the danger of their shared secret.

During a game of hide-and-seek, the clown knocks Analise unconscious and uses her as a womb for alien eggs, escalating the threat from the alien presence.

Tony’s toys escalate the danger: a toy tank is sent to attack Analise’s boyfriend Michael, who is killed when a panther mauls him as he flees.

Sam and Rachel make love at the farm, and Sam’s skin begins to bleed and decompose, signaling his ongoing transformation into an extraterrestrial being.

Joe takes Tony to the farm; Sam, now in alien form, leads his son toward the alien light and uses a fearsome scream to kill Joe on the hillside.

Sam and Tony enter the light and vanish back to the alien world, leaving Rachel behind as plans for a new life on Earth fade away. Back home, Rachel is pregnant with Sam’s second alien child, and alien eggs hatch into multiple Tony clones that rub her pregnant belly, a final, eerie smile forming on her lips.
