White Night

On a single night back in Korea after two years away, Kang Won Gyu Won Tae-hee returns home and steps into a quiet café where a tense reunion unfolds. The meeting is with a figure from his past—someone who wears a mustache and carries the weight of what happened when Kang left. The Bully Lee Se-ho is clearly still scarred by those events, and perhaps by the choice to depart at all. The two exchange guarded words, and both hint at someone else in their lives: > a 35 year old in Germany, one says, and > a 24 year old in Germany, the other retorts. The moment cuts deep, and tears gather in Kang Won Gyu’s eyes as he abruptly leaves the café, struggling to say goodbye before the door swings shut behind him.

As night deepens, a man in an orange jacket approaches. They seem to know each other through the internet, and their online exchanges quickly tilt toward something intimate and charged. The orange-jacketed man notices a scar on Kang’s shoulder, a detail that makes Kang circle back with hesitation. He becomes tentative, suddenly insisting that he doesn’t want anything sexual tonight, yet still seeking companionship. After a short, tense back-and-forth, they head to a nearby bar.

In the bar, a familiar face appears and the atmosphere shifts as they abruptly break into a chase through the urban streets. The man in orange follows, puzzled by the rapid turn of events. It’s revealed that Kang had been stabbed in a homophobic attack years earlier, a reality the pursuer seems to know, and the café encounter is linked to the same shadowy past—the attack that forced Kang to flee Korea, outed him, and left him stigmatized and cast out. With this truth in the open, they make their way to a pool hall to confront the man who stabbed him long ago.

After the confrontation, the mood between them softens despite their initial friction. Their shared danger gives rise to a glimmer of genuine care and affection, even as they struggle to express emotions openly. They move to a park to talk more honestly about their histories. During this conversation, Kang Won Gyu reveals that he has been telling stories about his love life, saying he is seeing “a 24 year old in Germany” once more, a confession that hints at more illusions than truth.

The man in orange finally introduces himself as Lee Tae Joon Lee Yi-kyung Tae Joon. The moment marks a turning point: they share a night together, and Tae Joon hands Kang Won Gyu his number. It’s at this intimate juncture that Tae Joon learns Kang Won Gyu’s real name for the first time, a detail that binds them closer as the night ends. The film closes on a suspenseful cliffhanger: Kang Won Gyu sits in a taxi, eyes fixed on a payphone, contemplating whether to call Tae Joon and see where this unexpected connection might lead.
