Jeff, Jon Heder is an anxious thirty-something who has spent years as the general manager of Winkys World, a dilapidated bowling alley on the outskirts of Chicago. A talented college dropout who left MIT to stay at the bowling alley, he has gone no-contact with his family out of fear of judgment. Despite the creaking routine, Jeff finds a quiet comfort in his work and has even designed an elaborate video game named Wizzing Winkys that mirrors life inside the alley.

Jeff’s world is populated by a tight-knit, if imperfect, crew. Stanford, Brendan Meyer a laid-back nephew of Carl, and Sheila, Candi Milo Carl’s ex-wife and the operations manager, provide a steady rhythm to Winkys’ days. Jeff genuinely connects with regulars and co-workers, but his personal life remains sparse, leaving him with little outside-of-work connection or routine social life.

The calm is upended when Carl, Jim O’Heir—the owner of Winkys World—reveals a troubling plan to sell the arcade within 30 days. Not wanting to lose the sense of belonging he’s nurtured at Winkys, Jeff hatches a bold strategy: stage an elaborate weekend event that he believes will show Carl the lifelike vitality of the place and convince him not to sell.
