In a society where the essence of adulthood seems to remain just out of reach, Janice, a woman in her 30s, grapples with her sense of direction in life. At the same time, Tim, a gifted street artist, must reassess his career path after his girlfriend departs due to his unusual job as a silver-painted street performer. While Tim strives to survive financially, Janice encounters her own difficulties when she is evicted from her home and is forced to stay with her overbearing sister, Jill.

Janice’s life takes a surprising turn when she encounters Tim at the zoo. They both secure jobs that allow them to connect over their mutual challenges. As their interactions extend beyond work, their early bond transforms into a true friendship. A serendipitous meeting ultimately leads them to a romantic date, resulting in a passionate evening and a profound emotional link.

Nevertheless, Janice’s sister Jill has her own intentions, trying to set her up with the egocentric Doug, a self-style guru who insists he possesses all the solutions. Despite Janice’s disinterest, she finds herself coerced into a date with Doug, which ends in mortification as she has to firmly reject his advances. Unbeknownst to her, Tim observes this entire scene unfold, leaving him feeling wounded and deceived.

As Janice struggles to understand the complexities of her situation, she unexpectedly encounters Tim again at a movie theater where he was meant to meet Jill. This fortuitous moment gives her the opportunity to express her feelings about the episode with Doug, only to uncover that the Mechanical Man costume disguises none other than Tim himself. As they confront one another, their emotions and misconceptions gradually begin to dissipate, allowing them to share an earnest moment as they rekindle their connection.
