During WWII a by‑the‑book captain must capture a strategic Italian village. The defenders will surrender only if they can hold a festival first. The lieutenant argues this is the only solution, but aerial reconnaissance forces a fake battle. An intelligence officer is sent to oversee the ruse, while the mayor’s daughter complicates the celebration.
