In 2020, after the Moon is colonized, three ships—Vega, Sirius and Capella—launch from Lunar Station 7 to explore Venus. An asteroid destroys Capella; Vega remains in orbit and sends astronauts Kern and Sherman with robot John to the surface, where contact with Dr. Marsha Evans aboard Vega falters. Sirius lands with commander Lockhart and his team, who are attacked by prehistoric beasts and use a rover to locate Kern and Sherman while gathering samples.
