Scarred from a childhood accident, Violet boards a bus in North Carolina, traveling to Oklahoma to seek the healing offered by a famous TV preacher. During the journey she befriends two soldiers headed for Fort Smith, whose company shapes her pilgrimage. The short film earned the Oscar for Best Live‑Action Short in 1982.
