In 2006, a 16-year-old girl with physical and mental disabilities was raped by her uncle. Following the assault, her mother, Vicenta, sought a legal abortion, which was initially granted. However, lawyers and doctors opposed the procedure, leading to a significant legal and medical scandal. The case resulted in legal action against the Argentinean state before the UN Human Rights Commission, culminating in a guilty verdict in 2011 and highlighting a tragic confrontation between personal tragedy and institutional barriers.
