In the first segment the pupils grumble that classic literature is irrelevant to contemporary life, only to discover their camp adventure mirrors Nikolai Gogol’s comedy “The Inspector General,” transposed to a summer‑camp setting. In the second segment, after reading Cervantes’ “Don Quixote,” the daring Vasechkin persuades the more cautious Petrov to embark on a lifelong game; Vasechkin, riding a bicycle with an umbrella, charges a “giant” that turns out to be a windmill.
