As Italy’s first color feature, the film follows Totò’s character Antonio Scannagatti, a hopeful musician desperate to convince the powerful impresario Tiscordi to publish his sweeping work “Epopea italiana.” His earnest schemes and comic mishaps highlight Totò’s trademark humor while showcasing the novelty of color filmmaking.
