It chronicles the brief rise and collapse of a revolutionary workers’ cooperative that seized a large private farm in Ribatejo, Portugal, between March and December 1975, echoing the wider Alentejo land occupations promoted by the Communist Party. Through candid, often‑to‑camera monologues, the uneducated peasants expose their misery, hopes and final despair when the socialist government orders the land returned to its former owners, who turn it into a hunting reserve.
