Ticket to Paradise

The movie begins with divorced couple David and Georgia Cotton discussing their failed marriage and reminiscing about rushing into it 25 years earlier. They express mutual disdain and reflect on how they ignored advice from others. Their strained relationship sets the tone for the ensuing chaos and comedy.

Lily and her best friend Wren get ready for their graduation ceremony. Despite Lily's request to her parents about seating arrangements, David and Georgia end up sitting next to each other, leading them to bicker and compete supportively for Lily. This highlights ongoing parental tension and their desire to outdo each other.

David and Georgia take their daughter Lily and Wren to the airport for their Bali vacation. They exchange passive-aggressive farewells, each secretly hoping to avoid further contact, which underscores their unresolved issues and lingering bitterness.

In Bali, Lily and Wren go swimming but get separated from their boat. They are rescued by Gede, a local seaweed farmer, who pulls them into his boat. A mutual attraction develops as Gede spends time with Lily, leading to a budding romance between them.

David and Georgia learn from Lily's email that she is engaged to Gede. Despite their objections, they fly to Bali and are seated next to each other on the plane. They meet Georgia’s younger boyfriend, Paul, who is the pilot, adding tension with their passive-aggressive remarks.

In Bali, David and Georgia team up temporarily to dissuade Lily from marrying Gede, hoping to prevent her from making their same mistakes. They meet Gede’s family, gaining insight into local traditions, while their efforts reveal unresolved issues.

During a traditional ring exchange ceremony, rings go missing, causing disappointment. Later, Gede takes them swimming with dolphins, but one dolphin bites David’s leg, forcing the group to tend to his injury and emphasizing the chaos in their Bali trip.

Gede confronts David about the missing rings, suspecting sabotage, which leads to further conflict. That evening, David and Georgia drink and dance, revealing their lingering attraction and emotional vulnerability, complicating their relationship.

Georgia almost accepts Paul’s proposal but is bitten by a snake during a trip to Tanah Lot, leading to hospitalization. Meanwhile, Lily finds the rings in Georgia’s bag, causing a heated argument about her parents’ lack of support for her marriage.

David and Georgia climb to a hilltop, where David’s boat drifts away. They walk back and discuss their past and feelings, leading to a kiss but ultimately deciding it’s not the right time. Lily and Gede’s wedding ceremony proceeds with emotional support from their families.
