At the close of World War II, orphans from several nations are gathered at the Pestalozzi Children’s Village in Trogen. When Polish authorities order all Polish residents to return home, 13‑year‑old Andrzey is devastated, unwilling to abandon Anja, the girl he has grown to love. Determined to stay together, the two children run away and go into hiding, hoping to survive the uncertain post‑war world.
