In the Chaco forest, the film follows Desmodus rotundus, a vampire bat four inches long with a twelve‑inch wingspan. It feeds on wildlife and livestock, draining small prey and passing a blood‑borne parasite to larger animals. The bat is shown walking, pulling a fur patch from a victim and sipping blood, aided by saliva and stubby nose and hare‑lip.
