The Translator

The nine translators are rounded up and taken to a bunker to translate in isolation under strict security. Each day they receive only small sections of the secret book to translate, minimizing leaks. The goal is a spoiler-free, smooth start for the book's publication.

After just a few days, the first ten pages are posted online by an unknown person. Tension rises as the team realizes their work is circulating beyond the bunker. Angstrom doubles down on control to locate the culprit and prevent more leaks.

A ransom note demands five million euros to prevent further pages. Angstrom uses the threat to pressure the translators and identify the blackmailer. Tensions escalate as trust within the group deteriorates.

Mistrust grows as Angstrom's coercion continues. The pressure takes a deadly toll when Helene, the Danish translator, commits suicide. The bunker becomes more volatile as fear overrides collaboration.

Through flashbacks, viewers learn English translator Alex Goodman planned to steal the manuscript. He teams up with several translators and appears to have copied the book from Angstrom before the translation project began. The revelations show that the crisis is partly of his making.

As more pages surface, the crisis inside the bunker peaks. Angstrom shoots Goodman and Katerina, the Russian translator, marking a violent escalation. Security forces begin to turn against Angstrom.

With loyalties shifting, the security forces arrest Angstrom. The follow-up chaos signals the collapse of the publisher's control over the project. The situation inside the bunker spirals toward a conclusion.

Goodman visits the prisoner and reveals his true identity as Oscar Brach. He had been hiding within the translation team to expose Angstrom's scheme. The revelation recontextualizes the events and confirms the author's involvement.

The confession and subsequent revelations expose Angstrom's greed and ruthless methods. Goodman’s claim to be Oscar Brach is revealed as the climactic twist. The truth reframes the crisis as a fight between integrity and exploitation.

Georges, the bookseller Angstrom killed, was a close friend of Goodman. Goodman had met Georges as a child and offered to publish Dedalus only if Georges pretended to be the author. Georges's murder is explained and ultimately avenged by the truth coming to light.

Angstrom remains in prison as the truth about Dedalus and the blackmail is laid bare. Goodman’s identity is confirmed, and Georges's murder is avenged. The author’s integrity is restored by exposing the corrupt publisher.

With Angstrom jailed and the author revealed, the translators’ ordeal ends, but the scars remain. The Dedalus publication history is rewritten in light of the deception. The film closes with a cautious sense of relief rather than triumph.
