The Vanished

Jin-han becomes paranoid after experiencing strange events at the police station and receiving mysterious messages from his dead wife's phone number. These eerie communications lead him to suspect that Seol-hee may have faked her death or been resurrected. However, these messages were actually planted by Detective Jung-sik to manipulate Jin-han and make him appear guilty.

Years earlier, Jin-han researched a new type of drug that could paralyze the nervous system and cause death without leaving obvious evidence. He and his mistress Hye-jin planned to use this drug to poison Seol-hee so they could be together. The plan had a critical flaw - illicit drugs might be able to counteract or mask the toxin's effects, creating uncertainty about whether the poisoning actually worked.

Hye-jin is Jin-han's mistress and a student at the university. The shocking revelation is that she is actually the sister of Detective Jung-sik's deceased fiancée, who died in a car accident years earlier. Jung-sik collaborated with Hye-jin to execute their revenge plot against Jin-han, using her relationship with him as cover.

While it appears Jung-sik is simply doing his job as a detective, his true motive is personal revenge. Years ago, his fiancée died in a car accident and her body vanished. The only clue was a logo from the car, which led to the company owned by Jin-han and his wife. Jung-sik used his position as detective to orchestrate an elaborate revenge scheme.

This manipulation was designed to make Jin-han look guilty of murder and body theft.

The messages Jin-han receives from Seol-hee's phone number are actually sent by Detective Jung-sik. These eerie communications guide Jin-han to the secluded location where he and Seol-hee once met secretly. Jung-sik uses these messages to manipulate Jin-han into appearing guilty and to lead him to the isolated house.

Jung-sik executes a complex frame job by stealing Seol-hee's body, sending mysterious messages to Jin-han from her number, and leading the investigation to discover evidence that points to Jin-han as the murderer. By the time the truth emerges, Jung-sik has successfully pinned both the murder and the body theft on Jin-han.

The film ends with Jung-sik and Hye-jin driving away together, having succeeded in framing Jin-han for murder and body theft. The ending is bittersweet - the avengers achieve their goal, but through deception and at the cost of framing an innocent man. The final image suggests they will continue their uncertain future together, leaving the full truth buried.

Seol-hee's body was stolen by Detective Jung-sik as part of his revenge scheme against Jin-han. By stealing the body, Jung-sik could control the narrative - making it appear that Jin-han stole it to destroy evidence of poisoning, when in reality Jung-sik needed the body to complete his frame job.
