It comprises a six‑hour monologue performed by Edith Clever, who reads Syberberg’s own words and excerpts from Goethe, Kleist, Plato, Hölderlin, Novalis, Nietzsche, Mörike, Wagner, Shakespeare, Beckett and Chief Seattle. The film screened out of competition at Cannes in 1985.
