The Executioner

In April 1990, Olga, a journalist in Leningrad, is brutally assaulted by three men—Igor, Viktor, and Sasha—while their fourth companion, Andrei, passively observes. Olga refuses to report the crime to the authorities, choosing instead to take matters into her own hands. This violent event sets her on a vendetta that will consume much of the film.

Olga begins by intimidating Svetlana, the accomplice who lured her to the attackers, into revealing their names. She uses threats and psychological pressure to extract the identities and establish the target list.

She sells her diamond earrings to fund the plan and hires Voldemar, a local crime boss, to punish the attackers however he sees fit. Voldemar agrees, setting the stage for a brutal vendetta.

The attack on Igor's daughter raises the stakes and a sense of inevitability tightens Olga's resolve. She informs Igor that the score has been settled, while the remaining attackers grow increasingly paranoid.

The conspirators send Andrei to negotiate with Olga, but the attempt backfires. A confrontation erupts, and Olga stabs Andrei in self-defense.

Andrei is severely wounded and ends up recovering under Olga's care, while the conspirators become more paranoid and reckless. The dynamics of the vendetta tighten around Olga.

Igor escapes to Alushta with his family to escape the vengeance surrounding him. The pursuit by Olga's network makes his escape precarious.

Sasha takes Igor's car but later dies in a car crash after tampering with the brakes. His death underscores the deadly chain reaction set in motion by the vendetta.

Viktor is abducted by Voldemar's associates posing as KGB agents and dragged into a drug-addicted nightmare. He ultimately dies from an overdose.

Olga learns from Voldemar that the revenge 'mechanism' is beyond his control, and attempts to stop the violence prove futile. The cycle of retaliation continues despite her efforts.

Olga plans to escape with Andrei, but their vehicle is sabotaged. While fleeing by train, Andrei is fatally stabbed by one of Voldemar's men.

In her home, Olga kills Voldemar, haunted by a childhood memory of running to greet her naval officer father, who had gifted her a toy dog. The act marks a grim culmination of the vendetta.

The film closes with a vision of the young Olga running through the woods, joy replaced by a gunshot and a slow fall. The haunting imagery signals her tragic loss of innocence as the cycle of violence remains unresolved.
