Echoing Chekhov’s The Wedding, it unfolds at an arranged ceremony where the bride and groom know each other little, yet their families ignore it. When the bride balks, the groom’s doctor father goes ahead with a costly reception. Krzysztof Zanussi attacks corruption and loss of individuality. Leslie Caron shines as a ballerina who is a kleptomaniac.
