Four American women from newly‑rich families fail to break into New York’s elite, so governess Laura Testvalley urges them to try a London season. They sail to England, mingle with aristocrats and each secures a suitor. Nan appears to win a match—a marriage to Julius, Duke of Trevennick—but discovers English aristocracy less honorable than expected.
