The Young Girls of Rochefort

On a Friday morning, a caravan of trucks arrives in the seaside town of Rochefort to bring the fair. Étienne and Bill help set up their stalls selling motorcycles, bicycles, and boats. The town begins to buzz with anticipation for the Sunday event.

In a Rochefort apartment, Delphine teaches ballet to a group of children while Solange accompanies the dancers on piano. The sisters dream of moving to Paris—Delphine to dance and Solange to compose. They resolve to leave Rochefort behind to pursue their ideal lives.

Yvonne, the twins' mother, runs a café in the town square and greets regulars like Maxence, a sailor who imagines his ideal woman. Delphine sees a painting in Guillaume Lancien's gallery that resembles her, prompting curiosity about the artist. Guillaume lies, claiming the painter has already left for Paris.

Solange, on her way to Booboo's school, bumps into a charming foreigner who is actually Andy Miller, the American composer. They are immediately smitten but part without exchanging names. As he leaves, the sheet music for her piano concerto falls and is discovered by him.

Étienne and Bill's girlfriends run away with sailors, disrupting the fair and the twins' expected performances. The men consider asking Yvonne for help, offering a free ride to Paris in exchange for the women's cooperation. The fair's appeal is threatened as relationships become unsettled.

On Monday morning, Simon visits the twins' apartment and tells Solange that Andy has agreed to meet her in Paris. He suggests she go to his shop to see Andy, who has returned briefly to Rochefort. He also offers to pick up Booboo from school so Solange can pursue the meeting.
