The prospector taught an Indian boy a doctrine of peace. When his tribe fought another, the boy refused to join, trembling at the din of horsemen and the cries of men crushed beneath falling horses. Angered warriors brand him a coward and exile him. He then sees a chance to embrace the white man's teaching: “Big love, man lay down life for friend.”
