Bernard becomes obsessed with a water spider, finding his wife Catherine dull. He attempts to replace her with the creature, which later metamorphoses into a tarantula and then into a mute, enigmatic girl called Nadie. As Bernard falls deeper for Nadie, he must decide whether to stay with Catherine or abandon her for the strange spider‑turned‑woman.
