Chief cashier Leopold Pichler, famed for his precision, is ordered to secure a large sum his boss needs for an urgent Vienna trip. Delays force the director to leave without the cash, so Pichler and his aide Wittek trail him with the bag. Mistaken for the director’s guests at a fancy nightclub, they pay a huge bill and launch increasingly comic schemes to repay the money.
