Set in a 1939 San Francisco bar, William Saroyan’s Pulitzer‑winning play follows a cast of lonely, lovelorn, weary and cynical patrons who drift in and out, sharing reflections on the looming war, art’s beauty, and moral absolutes. Among them, the earnest Tom falls for vulnerable prostitute Kitty, offering a glimmer of lasting love. Saroyan himself recites the prologue.
