The Time of Their Lives

Horatio Prim arrives at the Kings Point estate carrying a letter of commendation from General George Washington, hoping to secure Nora O'Leary's hand in marriage. He faces interference from the devious butler Cuthbert Greenway who schemes to keep them apart. Nora believes the letter could secure her freedom from indentured servitude, but danger to their plans lingers on the estate.

Nora rushes to show the GW letter to Tom Danbury, but he seizes her and hides the letter in a secret mantel clock. Melody Allen overhears the betrayal from the window and enlists Horatio to ride to warn Washington's army. The plan to secure Nora's future becomes entangled with treachery and war.

Danbury's betrayal triggers chaos as American troops marching to arrest him over Benedict Arnold's plot overrun the estate, loot it, and set it ablaze. Horatio and Melody are mistakenly shot as traitors and their bodies are cast into a well. Their souls are condemned to remain bound to the grounds until their innocence can be proven.

Playwright Sheldon Gage invites his fiancée June Prescott, her Aunt Millie, and his psychiatrist Dr. Ralph Greenway, a descendant of Cuthbert, to spend the weekend at the rebuilt Kings Point estate. They are greeted by Emily, a clairvoyant maid who senses the haunting. The stage is set for old secrets to collide with new lives.

Horatio and Melody take delight in pranking the guests and scare especially Greenway, whom Horatio initially mistakes for Cuthbert. The spirits also observe how the modern world intrudes on their century-old home. Their playful mischief begins to reveal the deeper human tragedy behind the haunting.

Emily leads a séance that brings the guests into contact with Horatio's and Melody's memories. Clues from the ghosts and Tom's repentant spirit reveal who they were and the existence of the letter that could prove their innocence. The group realizes solving the mystery is the key to freeing the spirits.

State police arrive to arrest Greenway, but they are prevented from removing him from the estate by the curse binding the ghosts. The tension escalates as the living and the supernatural clash over the fate of the clock.

The mantel clock is opened and the letter is revealed, proving Horatio's and Melody's innocence. Freed from the centuries-long bind, the lovers begin their journey toward heaven.

Melody is called to heaven by Tom, and Horatio is called to heaven by Nora. The moment marks a final release for the spirits and the start of their peaceful afterlife.
