In 16th‑century Spain, a powerful overlord hires Thomas Stanswood (Stuart Granger) to protect his reluctant fiancée (Sylva Koscina) from the rebel forces threatening his domain. While carrying out his assignment, Thomas becomes increasingly drawn both to the woman and to the rebels’ cause, leaving him torn between duty and a newfound sympathy for the insurgents.
