Furious at being omitted from Princess Aurora’s christening, the wicked fairy Carabosse casts a curse, declaring the infant will die by pricking her finger on a spindle. Fortunately, the benevolent Lilac Fairy softens the curse, ensuring Aurora will fall into a deep slumber, breakable only by a prince's kiss. This performance features the renowned 19th-century choreography of Marius Petipa, complemented by sections created for The Royal Ballet by Frederick Ashton, Anthony Dowell, and Christopher Wheeldon. Filmed live as part of the Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season, it was broadcast online during the #OurHousetoYourHouse programme.
