As the 1950s usher in a newfound sense of independence for Iceland, the nation begins to embrace the winds of modernity, bringing with it whispers of democracy, feminism, and technological advancements. At the heart of this transformative tale is Agga, a preteen girl skillfully portrayed by Ugla Egilsdóttir, who embarks on a profound journey of self-discovery as she transitions into young adulthood throughout the narrative.

The arrival of Freyja (Margrét Vilhjálmsdóttir), Agga’s older step-cousin, serves as the key instigator of change. Freyja comes back to Iceland from America, bringing with her an astonishing seven suitcases filled with the luxuries of modern life—clothes, perfumes, and even a refrigerator. Her Americanized charm captivates Agga’s family, including her grandmother and aunts Ninna and Dódó, who are spellbound by her cutting-edge fashion and fascinating tales of life across the ocean. Initially, Agga is skeptical, wrestling with suspicions that Freyja might be sinister or even a witch. Yet, her family remains transfixed by Freyja’s enchanting stories, pushing Agga’s doubts further into the shadows.

Agga opens up to her friend Dísa (Bára Lyngdal Magnúsdóttir), who shares in the excitement surrounding Freyja’s return. The two girls soon engage in an impromptu fashion show, trying on Freyja’s lavish clothes within the comfort of their home. Despite the fun, Agga’s anxieties continue to mount, as she grows increasingly convinced that Freyja is hiding dark secrets near the ominous coastal rocks. With no one to share her worries, Agga resolves to follow Freyja, determined to unearth the truth about her cousin’s peculiar behavior.

Through her investigations, Agga learns of Freyja’s frequent disappearances to the rocky coastline, where she often vanishes for hours. The forbidding landscape proves intimidating, creating a formidable barrier for Agga’s exploration. Gaining courage, Agga dons a trench coat, adopting an adult persona, which empowers her to return to the police station and share her apprehensions with Magnús (Hilmir Snær Guðnason). This time, Agga’s concerns are taken seriously, leading both of them on a journey to solve the puzzling mystery surrounding Freyja, thus uncovering more than just her secrets but also delving into the heart of a changing Iceland.
